Message from the Vice-Chancellor

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is extremely proud to host the 27th edition of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games in November 2022 after successfully hosting the 22nd edition of the games in 2012.

The games coincide with our 70th Anniversary Celebration as the premier Science and Technology University in Ghana. We, therefore, share our joy with participating universities and extend to them a golden opportunity to be part of our anniversary as well as experience our unique cultural heritage and the beautiful campus through sports.

Sports offer relevant stakeholders the opportunity to imbibe qualities of life such as discipline, hard work, patience, respect, productivity, reliability, dedication, responsibility, confidence and teamwork. Sporting events such as GUSA games, therefore, provide the platform for tertiary students to operationalize these qualities. As the hosting institution, KNUST is committed to hosting GUSA 2022 to meet global standards. We are committed to creating a memorable, fair, and healthy competition for all participating public universities.

Consequently, we seek to provide a platform that propels student-athletes for national and international competitions. In this regard, the theme for GUSA 2022 is Harnessing Sporting Talents of Students for National Development through Healthy Competition Using Science and Technology.

We hope to stage a successful tournament in which, Athletes put in their best, Officials provide the level playing field for fair and healthy competition, and teaming fans – students, alumni, and partners- come in their numbers to support their respective universities.

The KNUST Local Organising Committee is working hard to ensure that the games are as exciting as they are memorable for participating universities. It is the fervent hope that GUSA 2022 will be a game-changer for the development of sports in the country.

Akwaaba to all participating Universities!

Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, PhD
Professor and Vice-Chancellor
